Veterinary university set to start 14 new courses

Academic Council decided to increase seats from 220 to 260

Kochi: The academic council of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) held at Pookode the other day decided to start 14 new courses including those under technology-enabled learning programmes.

They include PG diplomas in Climate Services in Animal Agriculture, Climate Services, Meat Processing Technology, Toxicologic Pathology, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Therapeutic Management of Infectious Diseases of Pet Animals and Pet Birds and Dairy Entrepreneurship and Poultry Entrepreneurship, PG certificate course in Veterinary Homoeopathy, certificate programme in Histologic and Anatomy Museum and diploma in Dairy and Poultry Entrepreneurship.

“Technology-enabled programmes will be under massive open online courses (MOOC) mode. The university will use SWAYAM software of Ministry of Human Resources Development of Government of India and Amrita Virtual Interactive E-learning World Software of Amrita University,” said KVASU vice-chancellor Dr B Ashok. Toxicologic pathology will be an international programme in which 10 international experts from the UK, the USA and Canada will be the resource persons.

“All the entrepreneurship courses will be available for graduates and SSLC holders. Graduates can join for PG diploma programmes. SSLC/Plus 2 holders can apply for diploma programmes which will be delivered in Malayalam,” said Dr T.P. Sethumadhavan, director of entrepreneurship, KVASU.

Veterinary graduates can join the postgraduate certificate programme in Veterinary Homeopathy. The Academic Council also decided to increase the existing seats for BVSc & AH from 220 to 260.
