Cyclone brewing over Arabian Sea, says IMD

Heavy rainfall is likely over Karnataka

Hyderabad: A cyclone is brewing over the Arabian Sea. As per an IMD report on Sunday, the depression over the east-central Arabian Sea is intensifying and will develop into a deep depression in the next 24 hours. If this continues the deep depression will develop into a cyclonic storm, and will be named Soba, a name given by Sri Lanka.

The deep depression as of Sunday is centered about 560 km southwest of Mumbai and wind speeds are gusting from 35 knots to 40 knots. The IMD has warned that strong winds touching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would blow along the Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka coasts in the next 24 hours. In the subsequent 24 hours it will increase to 55-65 kmph and can gust to 75 kmph.

Sea conditions would be rough to very rough along and off Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka coasts during the next 48 hours. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea during the next 48 hours. Under the influence of this system rainfall would occur at many places during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa.
