Chandrababu Naidu calls Sonia Gandhi a traitor for allowing Andhra Pradesh's division

On June 2, last year, Andhra Pradesh was formally split to create Telangana

Hyderabad: Kicking up a storm, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday called Congress chief Sonia Gandhi a ‘traitor’.

“Sonia Gandhi is a traitor. She decided to bifurcate our state on Italy's birthday,” said Naidu.

Naidu, who completes one year in office on Monday, blamed Sonia Gandhi for the ‘bitter bifurcation’ of Andhra Pradesh.

On June 2, last year, Andhra Pradesh was formally split to create India’s 29th state Telangana. The residual portions of Andhra Pradesh, called Seemandhra were opposed to the bifurcation.

Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won the elections in Andhra Pradesh, however has been at loggerheads with Telangana over electricity, water sharing among other issues.

In his address, Naidu said that he would strive to make his state the ‘number one state in the country.’

He also hit out at YSRC, accusing it of conspiring against the TDP government to gain political mileage.

Earlier in the day, complaints were registered against Telangana CM K Chandrshekhar Rao for allegedly tapping phone calls of Andhra Pradesh counterpart, Naidu.

TV channels on Sunday aired an alleged conversation between Naidu and nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson in which the CM assured that “all commitments would be fulfilled”.

The recording is said to part of the TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy cash-for-vote case.
