Narendra Modi gifts tapestry from Andhra Pradesh
It is an artwork by National Award-winning artist Gowrabathini Ramanaiah
Nellore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday presented Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a hand-woven tapestry from Venkatagiri in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, woven in Jamdani style, well-known tradition in Bangladesh.
It is an artwork by National Award-winning artist Gowrabathini Ramanaiah, who weaved the tapestry using cotton yarn and gold thread. “Artwork in this tapestry shows Kalpavriksh tree and0 the Kamadhenu cow,” Mr Modi tweeted.
Kalpavriksh, or the wish-fulfiling tree, is one of the nine jewels that was churned out of the primal ocean. It is one of the most pervasive motifs in Indian artistic creations. Kamadhenu, the sacred cow, which grants all wishes and desires, is an integral part of Hindu mythology.
Mr Modi, who arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning, earlier tweeted, “Hello Bangladesh. I bring with me the affection of the people of India.”
