Kadakampally land grab case: 7 remanded

The suspects refused to divulge details related to tampering with the revenue records

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seven accused in the Kadakampally land grab case, including Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, were remanded to 12 days’ judicial custody on Saturday.

Even after being confronted with strong circumstantial evidence, the accused reportedly refused to co-operate with the CBI during the course of a three-day interrogation that ended on Saturday.

The CBI officers sought judicial custody citing that the suspects could try to derail the investigation using their high-level influence.

As per the CBI officers, the suspects refused to divulge details related to tampering with the revenue records. They are accused of cooking up bogus sale deeds.

The suspects are presently lodged in sub jail and four of them receive special medical aid owing to various diseases they suffer from. First accused C. K. Jayaram and second accused Abdul Majeed are among those receiving medical help.

CBI officers say they had got clinching evidence against all suspects. It has been confirmed that Salim Raj had misused his official powers and acted as a middleman in the multi-crore land grab case, they said.
