Macallan 1946 (Price: $460,000)
To many a whisky enthusiast, this Macallan is one of the greatest Macallans ever released. This amber hued bottle of single malt whisky in a LaliqueCire Perdue exquisite decanter was sold in 2010 at an auction in New York, for $460,000 with the proceeds going to charity. This whisky is unusual in that it was made with peated malt because of the then-prohibitive prices of coal that shot up because of World War II.
Macallan M (Price: $628,205)
A whopping Rs 3.9 crore for a bottle, this whisky was actually sold at an auction for $628,205 in Hong Kong. Its decadent bottle and faceted crystal decanter is 28 inches tall can hold six litres of whisky.
Macallan 1926 (Price: $75,000)
This is the oldest in the Fine and Rare Collection of Macallan. It was distilled in 1926 and bottled only in 1986. Only 40 bottles were produced. It is dry and concentrated as no water has been added to it. The drink is a testimony to one’s masculinity, or so they claim!
Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 1955 (Price: $94,000)
Glenfiddich had a barrel of Scotch whisky that has been ageing since New Year’s Eve of 1955. When Janet Sheed Roberts, the granddaughter of Glenfiddich’s founder William Grant, passed away at 110, the company decided to honour her by making 15 bottles from the said barrel. Four were kept by the family while the rest were auctioned off. A whisky connoisseur from Atlanta bought one of them for $94,000.
1939 Macallan (Price: $10,125)
Macallan added their 1939 blend to their Fine and Rare collection in 2002.This lot was first bottled in 1979 after the company let it age for 40 years. It also comes in one of their exquisite Lalique crystal decanters.
Glenfarclas 1955 (Price: $10,878)
This one is supposed to be the oldest batch of whiskey ever bottled by Glenfarclas, the barrel was handpicked in 1955 and then bottled in 2005. Whiskey connoisseurs from around the world describe its taste as ‘spicy and silky with a sweet start.’
Dalmore 62 Single Highland Malt Scotch Matheson (Price: $58,000)
Only 12 bottles were made in 1942, each of which was given names unique but relevant to the Dalmore Estate. The most expensive was the Matheson, named after Alexander Matheson, the owner of the estate. The bottles were sold apparently to a London-based businessman, who finished it on the spot along with his five friends.
Glenfiddich 1937 Rare Collection (Price: $20,000): This bottle, is in fact, known to be the oldest bottle of whisky in the world. It was distilled in 1937 in Scotland, matured gracefully and bottled in 2001. It is said to have hints of cedar, cinnamon, cloves and toffee, but has a very rich walnut colour!
Macallan 55-Year-Old (Price: $12,500): All it takes is a mere look at this limited-edition crystal decanter whose design was made by Rene Laalique who created a similar perfume bottle in 1910. This whisky was distilled in a sherry oak barrel and was left to age gracefully for 55 years.
Dalmore 50-Year-Old (Price: $11,000): The whisky was first distilled in 1920 and then bottled in 1978, with only 60 bottles being produced. The bottles themselves were made of crystal decanters and a collector’s item.
