Water level in Linganamakki reservoir drops

The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 154 TMC

Shivamogga: The delay in the monsoon is likely to cast a shadow on power production in the State. Sources in Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) said, the decrease in water-level in Linganamakki reservoir, one of the major reservoirs in the State that plays a crucial role in power generation, is likely to have its impact on power production.

The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 154 TMC. The reservoir is located about 1,819 feet above sea level. As on Tuesday, the water level stood at 1,754 feet. Chief Engineer Shivajirao said this is only 14 per cent of the total storage capacity of the reservoir.

Sharavathi hydro electric power station has a capacity to generate 22,000 million units of power every day. However, the KPCL is presently generating only 5,000 to 6,000 million units of power. The Corporation is making all efforts to improve efficiency in production using the available technical staff, Mr Shivajirao said.
