Husband, friends held for lecturer’s murder

Police said the couple used to have frequent fights

Hyderabad: The Tappachabutra police has solved the murder of B. Manju, 24, a lecturer at the Aurobindo Junior College, Mehdipatnam and has arrested her husband B. Yeshwanth and two of his friends for the crime on Friday. Police said the couple used to have frequent fights and Manju had filed a dowry harassment case against him. Yeshwanth bore a grudge against her and plotted to kill Manju and her mother Kalavathi, 50. He offered Rs 4 lakh to his friends for this. They attacked Manju and her mother with knives. Manju was injured seriously and she died on the spot.

Apart from Yeshwanth, 30, a civil contractor, the others arrested are Aravind Yadav and Harish Kumar. Police said the couple had a love marriage about seven years ago. At the time, Kalavathi gave about Rs 10 lakh and 150 grams of gold as dowry. The couple had a son boy named Abhishek, 6. Though initially they were happy differences cropped up and the couple used to fight over trivial issues.

Manjula started staying with her parents at Haridasnagar and Yeshwanth lived in Bandlaguda. She was reluctant to send her son too. Though elders tried to patch-up the couple’s differences it didn’t work. In the first week of December 2014, Yeshwanth filed a case at the City Civil Court seeking his son’s custody.

Later, Manjula filed a dowry harassment case against him and his family at the Women’s Police Station. “Yeshwanth started threatening Manjula and her mother to withdraw the case and hand over his son. He threatened to kill them otherwise. He sought the help of his classmate and close friend Aravind Yadav and offered '4 lakh. Aravind and his friend Harsih Kumar executed the murder plan,” said inspector B. Ravinder.

On the day of the murder at around 6 pm the duo entered the house and stabbed both the women. Manjula died while she was being shifted to hospital while her mother is being treated at the Osmania General Hospital. A case was booked and the arrested men were sent to judicial remand.
