Karnataka government to recover expenses in Jayalalithaa case from Tamil Nadu

BENGALURU: The state government has decided to ask Tamil Nadu to reimburse Rs 5.12 crores towards expenses incurred by it while conducting the trial of AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa and three others in the disproportionate assets case.

While the law department has spent Rs 5.12 crores, expenses incurred by the home department for making security arrangements are being tabulated, according to law and parliamentary affairs minister T.B. Jayachandra who told the media here on Thursday that the entire bill would be sent to the Tamil Nadu government soon. The Supreme Court, which transferred the case to Karnataka, had made a provision for seeking reimbursement of expenses from Tamil Nadu, he added.

The move comes four days after the state government’s decision to file an appeal in the apex court against acquittal of the AIADMK leader by the Karnataka High Court.

The minister said the state government would seek reimbursement of expenses once again after moving the apex court through an appeal against the AIADMK leader’s acquittal by Karnataka High Court.
