ANU comes up with 15 skill development courses
GUNTUR: Following the orders of the state government, Acharya Nagarjuna University has started skill development courses to the help youngsters get employment. ANU is the first university in the state to offer such a course and second, after Delhi University, to offer skill development courses in the country. It may be remembered that the state government had asked the universities to start skill development courses giving priority to provide employment to the youth.
ANU, as the first step, will start 15 skill development courses in AP. These courses are of six months duration wherein various industries of Guntur and Krishna districts will hone the skills of the students. The university has proposed 15 skill development courses on pilot basis and will start more skill development courses in the coming days. ANU's majority skill development courses are designed for degree students and only one, electronics manufacturing technology skill development course, is designed for class X, intermediate and degree students.
Diploma, degree and B. Tech students are eligible for skill development courses in diesel/petrol engine, house wiring, motor coil winding and 3 D design while B. Sc biology, intermediate and SSC pass students can join aquaculture technician course. Android and IOS application development is designed for B. Tech, MCA, M. Sc and B. Sc students and MBA, BBA, B.Sc, M. Sc and B. Tech students can join digital marketing.
The signalling and telecom centres installations and servicing skills is designed for diploma, B. Tech, B. Sc and M. Sc students. Skill development courses in LED light testing, internet of things, PCB design technician, office automation and e-filing, pharmacy practice and first-aid and ambulance services have been designed for degree, diploma, B. Tech and B. Sc students.
It may be noted that the establishment of new capital in Tullur of Guntur district will promote new industries, manufacturing units, marketing and other sectors as entrepreneurs and industrialists from abroad are showing interest in the business potential of the region and there is a large possibility of new units coming up in the capital region and adjacent areas. Elated over the new development, students P. Satya, G. Koti and others said skill development courses would be helpful in getting employment by honing their skills. They added that as there are only 10 seats in each course, an increase in the numbers would be helpful.
Speaking on the issue, ANU in charge Vice-Chancellor Professor K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao said the university has inked MOUs with various companies to offer skill development courses. He added that these skill development courses are designed to fulfil the requirements of the industry and provide employment to the students.
Mr Rao informed that Efftronics is offering skill development training in eight courses, Apollo Pharmacy of Hyderabad for pharmacy, Matrix in aquaculture and various motor companies will also offer training. He added that this training would be offered free of cost and will be helpful to the students to get employment.
