Woman, daughter found hanging
Chennai: The bodies of a 30-year-old woman and her daughter, aged eight, were found hanging in their residence on Erukkanchery high road, near Kodungaiyur, here, on Wednesday night. The police suspect that the woman had killed her daughter before hanging herself. They said Vinoth Kumar (32), a cab driver, reached his home on Manavalar street on Wednesday night and found his wife and daughter hanging inside.
“The man initially knocked on the door and when there was no response, he peeped through the windows to find his daughter Sangeetha hanging in the hall,” said a police officer. He immediately alerted the neighbours and with their help broke open the door to find his wife Prema hanging in another room. However, he took his cab and fled the scene immediately, police said.
The Kodungaiyur police moved the bodies to the government hospital for post- mortem. Investigations revealed that the couple used to fight over their financial position and even on Wednesday, Vinoth Kumar had quarrelled with his wife before leaving for work, the police said.
The police, who checked his work timings on the day, ruled out the possibility of his involvement in the deaths. “Further, we have also recovered a suicide note from the house where the woman has attributed her loneliness as a reason for her suicide,” said a senior police officer, adding that Vinoth Kumar had not turned up to receive the bodies after post-mortem.
