Woman climbs water tank, threatens to jump off
Chennai: A 45-year-old woman created a flutter at Pammal on Wednesday after she got on to a overhead tank near the Pammal municipality office and threatened to jump. The woman, E. Kala Devi of Moongileri, in Pammal, resorted to this step demanding action from the municipal authorities and cops in resolving a tiff with her neighbour. Draping a national flag over her, the woman climbed the overhead tank and started issuing threats, police sources said.
Investigations revealed that she was not in good terms with her neigbour, Pastor David, who runs an independent church in the locality. “The two of them always fight over a piece of poramboke land in the area and there is also a civil suit pending in the courts over it. From time to time, they also lock horns over the drainage path from their homes,” said a police officer.
The woman took this step on Wednesday afternoon after alleged inaction by the municipality officials over her complaints. Sankar Nagar police rushed to the spot and pacified the woman saying that they will settle the dispute if it was within their powers, as the case is still sub judice. Police sources said the woman had also tipped off local mediapersons before climbing up the tank.
