NSS-YI meet showcases Mini India in Tiruchy
Volunteers and artistes from across the country participate in the event
Tiruchy: Young Indians (YI), Tiruchy chapter along with the NSS unit of the National college here organized a sensitization programme and a festival on the Cultural Heritage of India in association with the NSS Regional Centre, Chennai. The event was billed ‘Mini India’, where volunteers and artists from across the country and neighbouring Sri Lanka participated and exhibited their talents on the various art and cultural forms found in the sub-continent. The event held here on Saturday attracted a large gathering of elite public, academicians, sports persons, scientists, social workers and thinkers.
K. Balamurugan, Regional passport officer, Chennai, who was the chief guest at the event, pointed out that though the art forms of India are found in different languages, they uniformly convey the ‘greatness of our soil’. And every such art form carries in itself joy and wonder. “Whether it be Karagam, Bharth naatyam, Koodiyattam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Yakshagana, Kathak, Odissi, etc., originating from different parts of India, they yet mirror the cultural unity of India”, he added.
Mr Ravi Murugaiah, one of Tiruchy’s leading businessmen, pointed out that Indians have chosen to preserve and celebrate their old cultural art forms. In all there were 20 events packed into the evening’s function.
Others who participated included Captain Subash Chand, NSS Chief, Chennai, Karthikeyan, Youth officer, NSS, Bengaluru, Samuel Chelliah, NSS officer, Thiruvananthapuram, Ponnambalam, Chair, Young Indians (YI), Tiruchy Chapter, and Dr D. Prasanna Balaji, NSS officer, National college. Earlier, Dr K. Anbarasu, principal, National college, welcomed the gathering, while Mr Ponnambalam proposed a vote of thanks.
