Infosys pleas fell on deaf ears
Plan to scale up facilities on campus
Thiruvananthapuram: The alleged lackadaisical attitude of Technopark officials is even hitting the plans of Infosys to scale up the facilities on the present campus for 10,000 more seats.
Insufficient water supply and narrow road in front of the campus are grievous issues that the IT giant has been taking up with the government over the last many years. They say they were allotted a temporary three-inch water line while the construction of the first ship-shaped tower with a seating capacity of 1,600 began years back.
Now two more software blocks have been commissioned adding up the facility for 5,000 seats more and work on a fourth-block has commenced. Even then the state government was ignoring their repeated pleas on flimsy reasons.
“Owing to the scarcity of water, we are now depending on private water tanker services daily to meet our requirements,” Infosys executive vice-president Ramadas Kamath said.
On certain occasions, it also faced acute water shortage.
“During the recent Attukal pongala, water tanker services were not available and we struggled a lot,” said regional manager Abhilash Kumar. Widening of the road in front of the campus was also taken up with the state government, which maintains it was upto the National Highway authority to do that.
“The responsibility of a state should not be limited to allotting land. They should ensure necessary infrastructure as well,” Mr. Kamath said.
