Hyderabad: New plan puts old in trash

The life of the Master Plan, which took 10 years to prepare, was up to 2030

Hyderabad: The Master Plan for the core city of Hyderabad prepared by the HMDA during the previous governments differs completely from the present 2041 Master Plan. Thus, the time and money spent on the previous master plans have been in vain.

All projects, including Habitat City, Science City, bus bays, inter connecting terminals at Miyapur etc. are no longer in the current master plan. Meanwhile, the Strategic Road Development Plan for Hyderabad includes skywalks, major corridor development and multi grade separators.

Estimating the population of Hyderabad to cross 184 million by 2031, former CM K. Rosaiah had released the city’s master plan which had included construction of 10 new flyovers, 13 bridges, seven road under-bridges, 27 commercial strips and 70 commercial roads, prepared by the HMDA.

The life of the Master Plan, which took 10 years to prepare, was up to 2030. A bus terminal with one stop-shop facilities at Miyapur with facilities for parking main buses, accommodation, budget hotels and rest rooms for drivers, a Logistic Park on 40 acre at Baatasingaram for parking of trucks, another such park on 20 acre at Mangalpally on Sagar Highway do not feature in the new plan.

A senior official from the engineering wing said the Master Plan 2041 was envisaged to improve access to all parts of the city, laying of alternative routes, integration of various projects and conservation of environment and heritage.

“The width of internal colony roads has been retained at 40 feet. Another main focus would be on drinking water supply; Rs 4,238 crore will be spend to ensure water supply in the next four years,” the official said.

Long-term projects would be constructed in the peripheral areas of the city. The Strategic Road Development Plan will revamp the city’s connectivity, 20 projects will be taken up in the first phase, other areas will be identified and another list of flyovers will be made, he added.
