AP seeks Election Commission nod for bhoomi puja
The AP government does not want the capital city project to be delayed
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is racing against time with just two days left for bhoomi puja for construction of the capital city, the most prestigious event of the Chandrababu Naidu government as on date. The state needs permission from the Election Commission to go ahead with the much awaited bhoomi puja for the new capital scheduled for June 6, as the poll code for MLC election has come into effect after EC announced poll dates for the 12 local bodies’ MLC seats.
AP chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao has written to the Election Commission of India to allow it to perform bhoomi puja on June 6 and public meeting on June 8 as both these events were announced even before the poll schedule was announced. In his letter, Mr Krishna Rao stated that an auspicious time has been fixed as muhurat for the capital city bhoomi puja and that there is no such auspicious time available in the near future if this one on June 6 is missed. The AP government does not want the capital city project to be delayed and urged the EC to allow it to go ahead with the programme.
Souces said the election code would cover the the Dwacra capital infusion scheme, issue of ration cards and pensions to over 1.5 lakh poor families. Employee tranfers scheduled between June 9 and 15.
