2K announces XCOM 2

The sequel Enemy Unknown will be launched in November this year but only on PC

2K has officially announced XCOM 2, a sequel to 2012’s critically acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It’s interesting to note that while both Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within launched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alongside PC, XCOM 2 will not be coming to consoles on launch. It will be released on PC in November 2015.

The game is set 20 years into the future, where humanity has lost the war and aliens now control Earth. Roles are reversed as the secret paramilitary organisation must now invade the aliens and reclaim the planet. Players now have limited resources and must judicially utilise them, while building the resistance via a new mobile base of operations called The Avenger. There are now five classes in the game, with Ranger being the latest addition.

It will feature procedurally generated maps with a virtually infinite combination of missions and goals. This will make the XCOM experience unique to every player. 2K has promised stealth-infused tactics, increased soldier customisation, more alien and enemy types, evolved tactical combat and much more.

I believe we will eventually see it come to PS4 and Xbox One. Launching exclusively on PC means that the developers can fully focus on delivering a complete experience this year and then port it to other systems after release.
