MLC poll code hits bhoomi puja for Andhra Pradesh new capital
Guntur: The much awaited bhoomi puja for the new capital, scheduled for June 6, might be cancelled due to the EC announcing poll dates for the 12 local bodies’ MLC seats. Officials are awaiting orders from the EC and the government about the bhoomi puja and are hopeful of getting an exemption from the EC.
With the model code of conduct in place, foundation laying programme for the Agriculture University on June 5 and the TD government’s one-year completion programme on June 8 might also be cancelled. There are no Muhurthams for the next three months, so those who were expecting to start work on the new capital might have to wait for that long.
Experts said that Adhika (extra) Ashadham will start on June 17 and end on July 16 and the actual Ashadham month would start on July 17 and end on August 14. They added that there were no auspicious Muhurthams till December due to the Godavari Pushkaralu, so the bhoomi puja for the capital should be conducted only in December if the June 6 date could not be kept.
Landowners G. Venkateswarlu, B. Nageswara Rao and others, who have submitted their farmlands for the new capital, said that as there were no Muhurtham for the next three months, the government should get exemption for the bhoomi puja programme from the EC.
