Maggi sales suspended at supplyco in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Close on the heels of the temporary ban by several other states, Kerala government has suspended selling Maggi noodles through the Supplyco outlets. Food and civil supplies minister Anoop Jacob on Tuesday issued the ban on the popular noodles until it is proved to be safe to eat after lab tests.
There are around 1400 Supplyco outlets across the state. The reported detection of mono sodium glutamate (MSG) and lead in excess of the prescribed limit in Maggi had instantly sparked apprehensions among noodles lovers across the country.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate of Food Safety has collected statutory samples from across the state for testing. A senior official of the Commissionerate said it would come out with an official declaration as soon the results are available.
“So far, the test results are negative and the level of lead content is within the permissible levels. We are awaiting one more lab result on MSG,” said the official. Meanwhile, the sale of Maggi noodles has reported sharp dip in the state.
