CBI sleuths quizz P Jayarajan

Mr Jayarajan later told reporters that he had given clear replies to all the questions asked by the CBI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI on Tuesday quizzed CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan in connection with the murder of RSS activist Kathiroor Manoj.

According to sources, Mr Jayarajan was questioned for over four hours on the suspicion that he had arranged a hideout to the murder-accused. Manoj was an accused in a case pertaining to the attempt to murder Mr Jayarajan in 1999.

Besides, Vikraman, who is the key accused in the Manoj case, was a former close aide of Mr Jayarajan.

Mr Jayarajan later told reporters that he had given clear replies to all the questions asked by the CBI.

The CBI officials did not say whether he would be summoned further for interrogation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other relevant laws. CPM leader M.V. Jayarajan accompanied him to the CBI office here.

Manoj was murdered on September 1 last year in Kannur. A Crime Branch team led by ADGP S. Ananthakrishnan, which initially probed the case, had registered a case by invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act apart from other relevant laws.

The state government sought a CBI probe considering a demand by the BJP state unit. The CBI took over the case in October and re-registered the case.
