Boy’s death in drain: Ayukta notice to BBMP
BENGALURU: Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao has issued notice to the BBMP Commissioner and the Joint Commissioner of the zone concerned, in connection with the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy, who fell into storm water drain on Saturday evening.
“A boy named Junaid, a resident of Yemalur, while trying to cross over the raja-kaluve to pick up a ball, fell into the drain and got washed away. Regarding the open drains, manholes and open bore wells, a proceeding was held on April 8, and directions were issued for covering all the open drains by barricades with chain link fencing at least six feet height from the ground level. Further directions were also issued to put caution boards with radium at a short distance warning the public about the existence of open drain, even visible during night times also,” a release stated.
“At the consensus of the officers present in the meeting, the deadline for implementing the directions was fixed on May 25 and to submit report. The repeated incident shows the non-implementation of the directions by the officers concerned and also non-taking of appropriate steps to avoid such accidents,” the release said.
“Therefore issue notice to the BBMP Commissioner and also to the Joint Commissioner of the zone concerned for submitting report about the incident on or before June 9,” the Lokayukta stated in his order.
