BENGALURU: Nine people of a 12-member gang have been arrested by the Yelahanka New Town police on Sunday evening on charges of kidnapping three people who had taken money from the former on the pretext of getting them police constable jobs, while three others are still on run. According to police, the simultaneous kidnap of the three people was for ransom.

They kidnapped the victims Rajavardhan, 24, a resident of Attur Layout, Chandragiri, 22, a resident of Judicial Layout and Akash, 24, a resident of Dodda Bettahalsuru. All the three had completed their graduation and were currently unemployed. A couple of months ago, Rajavardhan met one Nagarajuna, and the former learnt that Nagarajun's wife had appeared for the exams for the post of constable in Karnataka Police Department. Rajavardhan told Nagarjuna that he along with two others have contacts in police department and they can easily get a job for Nagarjuna’s wife.

Nagarjuna believed the youths and negotiated the deal of Rs 1.5 lakh, which was paid to the trio. After few weeks, Nagarjuna tried to contact them, but none of them were available. They did not answer to his phone calls. Nagarjuna grew suspicious and started tracking the trio. He traced the residential address of Rajavardhan and went to his house. The accused then made him call Chandragiri and Akash and asked them to come near RTO office in Yelahanka New Town. When they came near the RTO office, all the three of them were bundled into a van and kidnapped, added the police.

They were taken to Nagarjuna's house in Attur Layout and the trio were assaulted. But the parents of Nagarjuna objected to this and asked them to go elsewhere. They then took the trio to a farm house in Veerasagara. They locked them up in a room and started assaulting them. On Monday morning, they were again beaten up and they gave a mobile phone to the trio and asked them to call their friends to bring the money, said the police.

Chandragiri called up his uncle Venkatesh, who was a real estate agent and told him that he along with his two friends were kidnapped. He gave him the address of the farm house. Venkatesh informed the police and they went to the farm house and around nine members, who were in the house were arrested. They broke into the room and found the trio. The police rushed the trio to a nearby hospital and were treated for their injuries. They arrested the gang members, who later confessed to the crime.
