Andhra Pradesh ready for demerger of 59 state units

Modalities for demerger of 59 out of 90 corporations are completed

Hyderabad: The Shiela Bhide Committee has completed the modalities of demerger of 59 out of the 90 corporations and companies listed in Schedule IX of the AP Reorganization Act. The Committee reviewed 31 PSUs over the last two days and the respective departmental heads and secretaries have assured that they will submit all the details by August 15.

“The delay is mainly due to non-completion of audit accounts of the corporations. Moreover, the Andhra Pradesh government has also addressed a letter to the Union home ministry requesting it to define the phrase ‘Headquarters and the issue of common facilities’. It specifically mentioned organisations like APSRTC, AP Dairy Development Corporation, AP Dairy Development Cooperation Federation etc. So till a reply is reached, the demerger process will not move,” Ms Bhide said.

The AP government, after the Cabinet meeting on Monday, disclosed that it had written to the Union home ministry on the division of certain corporations stating that when Hyderabad was the common capital for 10 years, why should the PSUs relocate.

“Once the demerger is done, pressure will be mounted on us to shift the headquarters to Vijayawada or somewhere in AP. We want to know why? That’s why we have urged the Centre to give us a definition, under the Act and the Constitution, on the headquarters and common facilities,” Mr Palle Raghunatha Reddy, minister for IT, told Deccan Chronicle.

The expert panel found fault with certain frontline corporations for “lagging behind in the completion of audit accounts”.

They include the APSRTC, APGenco, AP Transco, AP Police Housing Corporation, APMDC, AP Housing Board, AP Housing Corporation, APSFC, APIDC, Deccan Infrastructure and Land Holdings Limited, APPFC etc.
