Big blow for Bangladesh ahead of India Test?

Shahadat Hossain could not honour his appointment with the Australian orthopaedic doctor

Mumbai: The 29-year-old Bangladeshi right arm fast bowler Shahadat Hossain could not honour his appointment with the Australian orthopaedic doctor Jonathan Bare on Monday.

This was revealed by surgeon's secretary Vicky Cresia.

Speaking from Australia, she said, "Dr. Bare was to see the patient on Monday at 4.15 pm and the decision on surgery was to be taken only after the consultations. However, the appointment has been cancelled for June 1 and it is yet to be rescheduled."

She was not aware of the reason for not turning up for the appointment by the player.

Shahadat Hossain had twisted his right knee during Test match against Pakistan last month.

Later, the team physician Dr. Debashish Chaudhary said, "The visa for the bowler has not arrived yet. We are expecting the same either on Monday or on Tuesday. New appointment will be sought now. However, the Dr. Jonathan Bare will see the player at the same place but only after June 5."

Dr. Bare's name was recommended by fellow colleague Dr. David Young.

In the meantime, the Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who has finger injury, is yet to be fully fit for the one-off Test against India.

"It will take some time for him to be fully recovered. The captain may participate in the Test purely as a batsman. If he is not recovered in time for the Test, some other wicketkeeper (to be chosen by the selectors) will don gloves," Dr. Debashish Chaudhary added.

The Test between the two countries will be played at Fatullah from June 10.
