Rahman academy at Nadakkavu Girls Higher Secondary School
KOZHIKODE: When the new academic year started on Monday after a two-month-long summer vacation, the students of Nadakkavu Girls Higher Secondary School had two things to rejoice about.
One was welcoming tiny tots of the first standard to the world of letters and the other being the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first music academy in any Government school in Kerala.
To the surprise of the students, the music academy will not be managed by the school authorities but instead it will be completely taken over by the world famous music orchestra ‘Sunshine’, owned by musician AR Rahman.
The foundation stone laying ceremony of the academy building was done by MLA A Pradeep Kumar, the one who launched the Promoting Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple Intervention (PRISM) project at the school and has now followed up with the music academy.
Talking about the upcoming music academy, the MLA said, “When AR Rahman came to the school for its inauguration after the implementation of the PRISM project, he had then offered us the gift of his music academy in our city, which is now turning into a reality. The Sunshine orchestra will take the initiative to pick singers and musicians from our land and train them into complete musicians."
Uralangal Labour Contract Cooperative Society have taken up the task of completing the construction of the academy in the next one year, and the building will have all modern facilities including studios, reception room, halting rooms for musicians, parking area and all the modern instruments.
“The concerned people of the orchestra team have informed us that the classes and selection process of the academy will begin before the completion of the building construction”, the MLA said. The music training will be given free to the talented bunch selected.
