Nestle in another soup: Live larvae found in milk powder in Tamil Nadu
Coimbatore: Nestle found itself in another soup after a taxidriver from Coimbatore came across live larvae in the milk powder he had purchased, according to a report in the New Indian Express.
K Prem Ananth had purchased a 380 gm Nestle NAN PRO 3 pack, a milk powder for toddlers. The 18-month infant, who had consumed the milk powder, developed skin allergy, following which he was admitted to a private paediatric care centre, the report stated.
Nestle sent a local area manager G Krishnaperumal to investigate the matter after a Prem Ananth registered a voice complaint with the Nestle customer support. Though the representative promised to replace the pack and promised to test he powder at a certified laboratory, Prem Ananth was not convinced that Nestle would conduct an impartial probe into the issue.
Meanwhile, a report from analysts at the Food Analysis Laboratory, Coimbatore, confirmed that the 380 gm sample contained 28 live larvae and 22 rice weevils.
Ananth has reportedly filed a complaint with the Food Safety Cell in Coimbatore.
