Chennai to stay cool for couple of days

Weather department has forecast the current conditions to prevail for the next two days

Chennai: Residents of Chennai enjoyed a rather pleasant start to the week, after cloudy skies hung over the city for most part of Monday even as intermittent showers kept the temperature to a moderate 31.8 degrees Celsius, down by more than 4 degrees.

Furthermore, the weather department has forecast the current conditions to prevail for the next two days. “There is upper air circulation off the coast of northern Tamil Nadu and bordering Andhra Pradesh. As a result, there will be some rainfall activity in the region. Chennai is expected to have pleasant days with possibility of rainfall in one or two localities,” a met official said.

He added that many places in the northern districts are likely to receive good amounts of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, in addition to a few places in the southern region that are expected to receive isolated rainfall.

Places like Pechiparai (Kanyakumari district), Avinasi (Tirupur district) with 7 cm of rainfall each, Colachel (Kanyakumari district), Vedasandur (Dindigul district), Coonoor (Nilgiris district), 5 each, and Mettupalayam (Coimbatore district), Sathyamangalam (Erode district), 4 each, were among the wettest regions during the 24-hour period ended Monday morning.
