Bollywood actors may face Maggi broil

Centre to be stern with ambassadors; samples will be tested from all states
New Delhi: The Centre on Monday said the brand ambassadors of Maggi, including Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit, could face action if they were found to have indulged in misleading advertisements.
The government has widened the probe against the alleged finding of lead and taste enhancer in the Maggi noodle. The Centre stated that it is testing samples from all states and strict action will be taken for any violation. The tests are being done by the central food safety regulator FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). Union minister for consumer affairs Ramvilas Paswan said that the reports are expected to come in the next 2-3 days.
Incidentally, a case has been lodged against Nestle India by UP food regulator FSDA in a Barabanki court in Uttar Pradesh over safety standards of its product Maggi. Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta were also separately dragged to court for promoting the “two-minute” noodles brand. He added that FSSAI has taken samples from every state and testing is going on and not only MSG and lead, all other parameters are being tested.
On possible action against brand ambassadors, consumer affairs additional secretary G. Gurucharan said, “Yes, they would be liable for action if the advertisements are found to be misleading.” He added that if the case turns out to be of misleading advertisement, the ambassadors are liable for promoting the product with ‘false’ attributes.
