PWD bogus bills: Karnataka Upa Lokayukta orders probe

PWD had claimed bogus bills worth Rs 32 lakh related to the works at the state police chief’s office

BENGALURU: Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B. Adi has ordered a probe into a case in which three officials of the Public Works Department had claimed bogus bills worth Rs 32 lakh related to the works at the state police chief’s office on Nrupatunga Road.

Lokayukta sources said that the Upa Lokayukta on Monday ordered SP Sonia Narang to investigate the case and file a report. The order has been passed after a report was submitted by the Chief Engineer of the Technical Audit Cell of the Lokayukta.

It is said that the report stated that works worth Rs 73 lakh was to be executed at the office of the DG & IGP, but some of the officials claimed Rs 32 lakh by furnishing bogus bills. A contractor had reportedly drawn his payment just seven days after a work order was issued, without carrying out any work.

The contractor, Anil Kumar, is said to be the brother-in-law of PWD Assistant Engineer D.K. Puttaswamy.
