PD Act invoked against rowdy-sheeter Zaffer Pehalwan

Police said Zaffer started committing crime in 1967 and was convicted

Hyderabad: Hyderabad city police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy has invoked the PD Act against notorious rowdy-sheeter Hamza Bin Omer alias Zaffer Pehalwan, 62, a resident of Yakutpura. Police said that Zaffer Pehalwan is an illegal financier and land-grabber. He is involved in about 35 cases and even after counselling and repeated warnings did not mend his ways.

Recently, a case was booked against him for threatening a woman from Chandrayangutta to turn hostile in a murder case against him. He was detained and sent to the Cherlapally Central Prison on Monday. Police said Zaffer started committing crime in 1967 and was convicted. He assaulted one Ramdass along with his associates and using his muscle power, got the case compromised.

Using his wrestling skills, he managed to get himself recruited as an armed reserve constable at CAR headquarters and underwent training. He was detained under Misa in 1971. He was detained at the Central Prison, Chanchalguda, and, after release, he was recruited in SAR CPL Amberpet.

He changed his name to Hamza bin Omer and was recruited under sports quota. Later, he was dismissed from service due to his bad record. South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said Zafer is involved in cases like murder, chain snatching, robbery, land grabbing, extortion and used to engage poor youth as musclemen to threaten locals.
