No pressure to join politics: Nara Rohit

Nara Rohit speaks about his upcoming film Asura

Hyderabad: Nara Rohit has always come up with different scripts and his recent films like Prathinidhi and Rowdy Fellow have proved that he is a good performer. But while most of his films have been critically acclaimed, some of them haven’t done very well at the box office. “Yes, due to low promotions, timing of the release and other reasons, some of my films didn’t get good revenue though they were very good,” says Rohit.

This time, he is personally looking into the promotions of Asura.

“Asura is an action thriller and it is a screenplay-based film. I play a cop. Though the title seems negative, I am not a bad cop,” says Rohit.

The director is debutant Krishna Vijay. Interestingly, Rohit has worked with debutants in his earlier films too. “I never see whether a director is experienced or not, I always look at the content. That’s the reason why I get a variety of scripts,” he says.

“Many people try to create subjects keeping in mind a particular actor and the producer thinks of putting money on the popularity of an actor. But they never look at the content,” says Rohit about why he is getting good scripts.

The actor has given green signals to 10 films and three of them are in production. “From my childhood, I have been passionate about films. If not an actor, I would have definitely become a producer,” he confesses.

Rohit completed his studies in Chennai and he has been hugely influenced by Tamil cinema. “I like the way they come up with innovative ideas. Many of my friends crack jokes about our Telugu cinema as many actors wear red shirts, dance and other things. That’s the reason why many of my films are on serious subjects,” he says.

He adds that the “Nara” tag is an additional advantage and it helped in the beginning. “Now I have created my own niche here. It took me six years,” he says.

He also says that he has never been under pressure because of his political background. “I know politics from my childhood as I have grown up watching my family. But cinema is completely new and I am learning from film to film,” he says.

He, however, adds that whenever the Telugu Desam needs his services, he is ready. “If the party asks me to do something, I am ready to do it. Otherwise, I will concentrate on my films,” he says.

When asked about the possibility of the Telugu film industry shifting base, he says, “No, Hyderabad is the hub for our film industry and it is not going anywhere. But Vizag is going to be another big centre for the industry and we are developing there. But the industry is not shifting,” he says.

When asked about his marriage plans, the 29-year-old says, “Maybe next year.”

“I like going on long drives when I have the time. Otherwise, I watch a lots of films. I also like travelling,” Rohit adds.
