Vijaypuri Colony abuzz with activity

The police had a tough time moving the locked vehicle from the spot after the arrests

Hyderabad: The usually quiet Vijaypuri Colony in Tarnaka was buzzing on Sunday with the arrest of TD MLA Mr Revanth Reddy. With the news breaking and additional forces rushing to the spot, anxious residents came out from their houses to learn about the graft case.

Mr Revanth Reddy reportedly came in a white Scorpio, bearing the number AP 09 CV 9939, in the afternoon with his aides. The car was parked at the Pushpa Nilayam apartment’s narrow lane, blocking the path. The police had a tough time moving the locked vehicle from the spot after the arrests. Automobile technicians were called in and they succeeded in opening the vehicle after half an hour.

Locals meanwhile were totally unaware of the proceedings. It was only after Mr Reddy was arrested that they realised what had happened. “The car was parked there since afternoon. When I came out of the house in the evening I learnt about the ACB arrests,” said a local.

After being caught red-handed by ACB officials, Mr Reddy was questioned in Pushpa Nilayam before he was taken away at around 7.45 pm from the premises to the ACB office in Banjara Hills.

Conspiracy case included

The case booked by the ACB in the Revanth Reddy cash for vote scam includes a conspiracy angle.

Along with sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the case has a conspiracy section under PIC 120B read with IPC 34. TS ACB director-general A.K. Khan said four accused were named in the FIR and three of them, MLA Revanth Reddy, his aide Uday Simha, Bishop Harry Sebastian, were arrested.

The fourth accused Jerusalem Mattaiah was not in ACB custody, he said.

He said the case was booked after primary investigation against the four persons. He said the information was being shared with income-tax officials and MLC election observers.

Mr Khan said the case and sections were non-bailable and cognisable.
