Rahul Gandhi attacks Narendra Modi, again
Modi is in an amazing hurry to grab land from poor farmers, tweets Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi: The confrontation between the government and the Opposition intensified further over the controversial land issue after the government on Saturday decided to re-promulgate the land ordinance, making the joint committee of Parliament (JCP) irrelevant.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi made a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being in an “amazing hurry” to “grab” land from poor farmers by deciding to re-promulgate the land ordinance for the third time.
While the Congress, Left and Janata Parivar are consistent in opposing the current Land Bill, the role of the Trinamul, BJD, AIADMK and BSP would be important on the floor of Parliament. The Shiv Sena, NCP and Swabhimani Paksha have not changed their stance on this issue.
Although non-NDA parties are yet to formulate their strategy after the re-promulgation of the land ordinance, their MPs are asking what is the point in working in the JCP. Asked whether they would resign from the JCP, a Congress strategist remained non-committal. The government does not want to be seen weak on this issue and its next strategy is to manage the numbers in the Rajya Sabha.
“Modiji in an amazing hurry to grab land from poor farmers at any cost. A third attempt at pushing the anti-farmer land ordinance!” Mr Gandhi tweeted. “Congress Party will continue to fight for the rights of the kisan and mazdoor against this #suitbootkisarkar,” Mr Gandhi said in another tweet. Mr Modi made a “mockery” of the exercise to go into the measure by the joint committee, said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
