Bengaluru: Upset over his son’s poor health, a 61-year-old retired head constable committed suicide by hanging himself at his house at Muneshwara Layout in Doddabidarakalli in Peenya police limits on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as S. Govindappa, who retired as a head constable with CID just two months ago. He hailed from Madhugiri in Tumkur. Police said Govindappa, who had dinner on Friday, went to his room and hanged himself. His wife Jayalakshmamma found him hanging in his room on Saturday morning.

In her statement, Jayalakshmamma stated that their son Prem Kumar, a software engineer, was admitted to a hospital as he was suffering from dengue. On Friday, the doctors reportedly told them that the chances of his survival were less. Upset by this, her husband committed suicide. Peenya police have registered a case.
