After attending festivities at a wedding, Krishna Prasad returned home to shock that has subsequently shocked everyone else. A whopping Rs 55 crore monthly electricity bill had been delivered to his house, which is a two-bedroom house in Kadru area in Ranchi. Prasad and his family do not use air conditioning in their house despite the sweltering heat.
"You know my mother could have died because of this. I will take these people to court," Prasad was quoted saying after seeing the astronomical bill.
The family of five has been shaken with the bill which seems incorrect but would be shocker for any household consumer. According to reports, Ranchi is often faced with acute power cuts during summers which stretch for about 7 -8 hours every day.
The Jharkhand electricity department has suspended two of its employees after the incident surfaced and says the bill could have been a result of a clerical error. The entire work of delivering power bills has been outsourced to a private entity, the officials claim, however the cause of the error is yet to be determined.
