DMK may back ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy
Chennai: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Friday hinted that his party would support activist ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy in Dr R.K. Nagar by-election on June 27 against Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. A decision would be arrived at after consulting the party general secretary K. Anbazhagan, Mr Karunanidhi said after meeting Traffic Ramaswamy at his residence at Gopalapuram. “Mostly it would be a good decision,” Karunanidhi said, apparently indicating that DMK could back Ramasamy’s candidature. DMK had already announced its decision to boycott the R.K. Nagar by-poll.
Social worker Ramaswamy who has expressed his wish to contest the bypoll, has been canvassing support from all opposition parties to be declared as a common candidate. Earlier, Mr Ramasamy called on DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin seeking his party’s support for his candidature. Mr Stalin later said that party chief M Karunanidhi would take a call on this matter.
Later, Mr Ramaswamy met DMDK president Vijayakanth in his party headquarters in Koyambedu. “Mr Vijayakanth has said he would consider extending support,” he said.On Thursday, the activist called on VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan seeking his party’s support.
