Daughter and her partner behind burglary in cop's house in Tamil Nadu

Both got married in a registrar's office and steals the jewellery to finance their married life

Salem: A police inspector's daughter and her partner have been alleged to have stolen gold jewellery worth over Rs 15 lakh from her father's house at Ammapet here about two weeks ago.

Commissioner of Police A Amalraj said investigations led to the arrest of Manikandan, a college student and some jewellery has been recovered.

He was produced before a local court on Saturday and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

Manikandan told police that he and the girl, also a college student, had got married in a registrar's office without informing their parents and hit upon the idea of stealing the jewellery to finance their married life.

The girl was still at large and police are on the look out for her, Amalraj said.

Inspector Kabilan, posted in Tiruchirappalli, found his house burgled when he returned to Salem. His family members were away in Chennai at that time.

Kabilan was attached to the city police and had been transferred to Tiruchirappalli only last month.
