At 21, already a hero cop
Kotiga Tejeswini from Tirupati, confronted two men who were planning a triple murder
May the 16th was going to be just another court run for constable Kotiga Tejeswini, until she stumbled upon two knife-wielding taxi drivers, conspiring to kill another driver. The two drunks were just standing by the road and discussing their plan, when Tejeswini... all of 21, approached the duo and asked them what they were up to.
And within the next 20 minutes, chaos broke out. The two would-be killers were quick to dismiss the young cop and even told her to “mind her own business”. Tejeswini, however, stood her ground and refused to leave.
The two drivers tried everything, from threats to taunts, and when they finally started moving towards her menacingly, Tejeswini managed to catch hold of one of them and snatch his knife away. The drama unfolded in full view of the public, but, no one came to help. After a tense stand-off with the drunks, she grabbed her walkie-talkie and alerted the Blue Colts police. Attached to the Women’s Police Station at Tirupati, Tejeswini was recently felicitated by the Tirupati police brass for her exemplary display of tact, initiative and determination.
During interrogation, the accused, Pula Rajesh and Bala Durga Prasad, confessed they were planning to kill three persons and that Tejeswini had single-handedly foiled their attempt. A computer science graduate from Sri Venkateswara University, Tejeswini joined the department only six months ago, fulfilling her father’s dream.
“My father’s ambition was to become a police inspector but family circumstances forced him to become a farmer,” she says.
When asked if she had missed out on better career opportunities, being a computer science graduate, Tejeswini said there were no regrets, even if the pay cheque was smaller in size.
