THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: National Film Development Corporation of India chairman-designate Suresh Gopi on Friday said that he would consider bringing a new national policy on cinema.
The actor said that the policy would be aimed at protecting cinema and its components. He was speaking at a function organised by the BJP art and cultural wing in connection with the launch of ‘Nirmalam,’ a cleanliness programme, covering 100 schools across the state.
Mr Gopi said he would take over as NDFC chairman on June 20. The first project of Nirmalam would commence with the setting up of toilets at Chitravilasom School, Cheriyankeezhu, where Malayalam cine icon Prem Nazir studied.
“Let this project be the beginning of a new initiative to clean up our schools and facilitate a better environment for children. It will give the required direction and also the message to people across the state,” he said and appealed to all organisations to come forward and support the initiative of the BJP cultural wing.
When asked whether he would take part in the BJP election campaign in Aruvikkara, Mr Gopi said so far the party had not asked him to campaign. “It all depends on my new assignment and the direction that my party gives,” he said and added that people would decide the fate of Aruvikkara.
Earlier, senior BJP leaders led by state president V. Muraleedharan and Mr V.V. Rajesh welcomed Mr Gopi at the BJP state headquarters, Mararji Bhavan. The BJP central leadership is keen on projecting the actor as one of the popular faces of the party in the state.
