Vinu Chakravarthy acts for free

Veteran actor being a devotee of Sai Baba didn’t even take any remuneration

Devotional movies have always found their way to women audiences and children since early times in Tamil cinema. But with comedy and horror films being the order of the day, there’s a dearth of devotional movies in Kollywood today. To fill this void, TNS Devar Films is coming out with a movie on the life and times of Shirdi Sai Baba titled Apoorva Mahaan. Thalaivasal Vijay, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Sai Baba, has been chosen for the role of the spiritual master.

The movie directed by Manimuthu, will chronicle Sai Baba’s life and times, as well as the miracles that he performs in the present scenario. The director also recalls a heartwarming incident that happened, when he wanted to cast veteran actor Vinu Chakravarthy for a role in the film, “My team members said that Vinu sir couldn’t walk and wasn’t keeping in good health.

When I met him he was bedridden but I went ahead and told him about his character in the movie, and asked if he and would he agree to work with me? A few days later, I got a call from Vinu sir asking me the date and location of shooting! He came in his car and walked up to the spot and started donning the greasepaint. We were all thrilled. In fact, being a devotee of Baba, he didn’t even take any remuneration from us!”
