‘Defector’ Telangana MLAs keep their vote
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday expressed its disinclination to grant an order to restrain certain Telugu Desam and Congress MLAs, who had joined the TRS, from casting their votes in the MLC elections in Telangana scheduled for June 1.
A vacation Bench of the HC comprising Justice A. Ramalingeswara Rao and Justice T. Sunil Chowdary was dealing with two interlocutory applications moved as a lunch motion by Telangana TD floor leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Congress whip in the Telangana Assembly S.A. Sampath Kumar.
The petitioners urged the court to declare the voters’ list, including the names of some TD and Congress MLAs who had switched over to the TRS, as illegal and arbitrary. Mr Dayakar Rao had earlier moved a petition seeking disqualification of MLAs Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Teegala Krishna Reddy and Challa Dharma Reddy, who had been elected on Telugu Desam tickets, but had later joined the TRS.
Mr Sampath Kumar sought the disqualification of Kale Yadaiah, D.S. Redya Naik, G. Vittal Reddy and Koram Kanakaiah for joining the Tela-ngana Rashtra Samiti. The counsel for the petitioners submitted that both the writ petitions were pending before the High Court.
He said that the petitioners had moved the interlocutory applications in view of the MLC polls and urged the court to restrain the respondent MLAs from the voting till final adjudication of the writs.
He alleged that the voters’ list was defective and sought the court to direct the Election Commission of India to discharge the existing returning officer from the responsibility of conducting the ensuing MLC elections.
