Bhavani island to be made stronger by modifying it

The capital city master plan envisages strengthening the Bhavani island
Vijayawada: Planners from Singapore have taken all the precautions to protect the important Prakasam barrage and Bhavani island in their master plan for the capital city. According to the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) officials, the capital city master plan envisages strengthening the Bhavani island.
The height of the island would be taken up to five metres from the existing three metres. The island will also be reshaped and given an aero shape.
As per the plan of action, the 133-acre island would be filled with silt from the Krishna River to raise the height. Walls will also be constructed around the island. The design and strengthening of the island is supposed to provide protection to the Prakasam barrage.
The aero design envisaged for the Bhavani island will ease the flow of water without any exerting any pressure on the barrage.
Meanwhile the government has identified a total area of 2,800 hectares of islands between Amaravati capital city location and Prakasam barrage in the Krishna River.
In the proposed plans. all the islands except the Bhavani island will be removed for easy water flow. The stretch of the Krishna River in the capital region would have water sports and boating facilities under the tourism recreation plan.
Several tourism structures are also being planned on the Krishna district side of the Krishna River, which is situated opposite to the capital region. The water flow will be improved by smoothening out the roughs on the river bed. This is intended to protect the barrage as well. The linkage between Kondaveeti Vaagu and the Krishna river and channel would also be expanded.
