New wine pairing: A workout
Apparently, the hottest new pairings in the wine world no longer involve cheese, chocolates or even food of any sort. Instead, the latest pairings are all about matching wine with fitness. So you may have a fine red wine being sampled in the midst of a yoga class or the bouquet of a wonderful rosé being analysed even as you stretch and flex.
The Wall Street Journal has chronicled the practice in a new report, pointing out how some swish wineries are holding fitness camps on their extensive properties, so that wine lovers who’ve stopped by to pick up their favourite bottle, can also work out once they’re done with their shopping.
So now Bellinis are handed out with morning yoga sessions, with Pilates and boot camp training accompanied by wine tastings.
The reasoning for the new pairing seems to work in two ways: Firstly, wine is believed to have several health benefits, so this is a way of accentuating its healthful advantages.
Secondly, the wine acts as a post-workout treat to look forward to, making working out itself a little less of a drag.
How efficacious these wine-workout pairings will prove to be is anyone’s guess, but as a trend, we’re giving it a thumbs up.
