The old method will be followed while giving 25 per cent weightage for Inter marks to determine Eamcet ranks. Though the Telangana government had planned to adopt the “normalisation method” this year for Inter marks to give weightage, to minimise the impact of higher pass percentage achieved by Andhra Pradesh students in Inter exams, it changed its mind in the last minute. This was because the normalisation method was not mentioned in the Eamcet notification and any changes at this stage would lead to legal problems.
Another reason was that Telanagana students bagged many top ranks in the recently - announced Andhra Pradesh Eamcet results and made it to the qualifying list, though they are eligible for only 15 per cent open quota seats in Andhra Pradesh colleges.
Totally, 2.32 lakh students have registered for TS Eamcet this year which was conducted on May 14. Of them, 1,39,636 candidates applied for the engineering stream and 92,362 in the medical stream. In Hyderabad alone, about 1.13 lakh students had registered for the exam.
