No Telangana credit angers Congress
The Congress on Wednesday strongly condemned the TRS government
Hyderabad: The Congress on Wednesday strongly condemned the TRS government for the non-inclusion of AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s role in the formation of Telangana in the new state syllabus.
Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan here today, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition in the Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the chapter titled The movement for the formation of Telangana State has been included in this year’s Class 10 social studies text book.
However, the entire text of the chapter mentions only Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti. “This is a fascist tendency and demonstrates autocratic and dictatorial attitude of the CM. The Congress will not tolerate this behaviour,” Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said. He said there is also no specific mention of the role played by the martyrs and students.
While showing a video clipping, Mr Shabbir Ali said on March 14, 2014, while speaking on the floor of the Legislative Council, Mr Rao had not only admitted that Telangana was not possible without Mrs Gandhi, but also assured that her contribution for the formation of Telangana would be included in the school syllabus.
They said the CM had backtracked on his assurance and ensured that there was no mention of Mrs Gandhi and the Congress in the text. “This chapter is incomplete, inaccurate and misleading,” he alleged.
They said the Telangana movement had been launched by the Congress much before the TRS came into existence. Mrs Gandhi and the Congress had many sacrifices for granting statehood for Telangana.
They said that all Congress MLAs had resigned and MPs had stalled Parliament and had been suspended. They said Mrs Gandhi gave Telangana not due to Mr Rao, but to stop more students from committing suicide.
