Fortis Healthcare doctors lend helping hand to Nepal victims

Doctors and Emergency staff were the first to reach the interiors of Nepal

Chennai: In a show of solidarity and empathy for the people of earthquake-hit Nepal, a team of doctors and medicare professionals from Fortis Healthcare Limited, Chennai, treated and vaccinated over 5,000 victims. The team, comprising Dr K. Tharagaram, head of emergency, Suresh P, emergency staff nurse, Karthikeyan, emergency staff nurse and Jaseel. P, emergency staff nurse, was among the first to reach the interiors of Nepal, crisscrossing difficult terrain and putting their lives at risk. They carried with them over 3.5 tonnes of medical supplies, essential medicines and basic daily necessities to provide emergency help to the quake victims.

Team Fortis Sewa worked with the Nepalese Army to extend relief operations and was involved in treating victims in the remote areas of Melamchi, Ranipauwa, Kakani, Najra, Godamchur in Lalitpur district, Debachaur, Sermathangat and Thampal Dhap and between Ranipauwa, an hour and half drive from Kathmandu, and Kakani, a hill station situated at 6,700 feet.

The team organised nine OPDs at Najraand treated over 600 patients in four hours. At Godamchur, many patients were treated for depression and shock. The devastation was almost complete in Debachaur where 155 people lost their lives. As many as 272 patients were treated here. At a picturesque village Sermathangat, the team treated and vaccinated over 150 people while at Thampal Dhap, 480 were provided medical aid and treatment.

The 25 doctors and medical support professionals included an Obstetrician, Orthopaedic and Trauma specialist under Fortis’ Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Ashish Bhatia. The team was felicitated on arrival in the city on Wednesday.
