Chennai: Creative leadership powers economic development in a nation, former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said at a function to mark the silver jubilee of Valeth group of industries on Wednesday in Chennai.“For success of any mission it is necessary to have creative leadership. Creative leadership is vital for government, non-governmental organisations as well as for industries,” he told the gathering. .
The 21st century is an era of competitiveness, he said adding that economic development in nation is connected with competitiveness, knowledge, technology of innovation, resource investment, revenue, customer loyalty, quality of products, employee loyalty, employee satisfaction.He also spoke about quality of products at affordable price. The Valeth group is one of the leading manufacturers of advanced composite materials and products for space, aerospace, defence, aviation and marine.
He spoke about his experience when he was heading a group of scientists at Isro in 1980-81 while working on the project of SLV (Satellite Launch Vehicle) four stage. During the launch of the propellant motors there was competitiveness between India and Europe. “India was planning to use Apple communication satellite. Will it be Indian motor or European motor? We had done 99 tests and I was asked to show 10 consecutive tests. Finally India’s propellant motor was selected,” he said.
