Cheated by chit fund agent, Bengaluru sisters attempt suicide
BENGALURU: Cheated by an agent of their chit fund money, three sisters allegedly attempted suicide in Madanayakanahalli police limits on Wednesday morning. The accused agent, Shiva Kumar, too tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.
The sisters – Mangala, Geetha and Rekha, who are residents of Mariyappana Palya near Jnanabharathi, went to Shiva Kumar’s house in ITI Layout, which is nearby, on Wednesday morning, but could not find him. Later, they went to his other house in Janapriya Layout in Madanayakanahalli and asked him for their money.
When he refused, the sisters, who were carrying a bottle of poison, consumed it right in front of his house. Shiva Kumar too drank poison. Passersby, who noticed them struggling for life, rushed the sisters to Lakshmi Hospital in Kamakshipalya and Kumar to a private hospital in Vijayanagar.
After they were alerted about the incident, the Madanayakanahalli police rushed to the two hospitals and found out that the three sisters and the agent were out of danger. Nearly 30 people gathered outside Lakshmi Hospital and claimed that they too had been cheated by Kumar.
“No complaint has been filed yet, as the victims could not talk to the police. But the others, who have allegedly lost their money, said they would together approach the police and lodge a complaint against Kumar. We do not know the exact amount of money that they have lost. After we receive the complaint, we will take Kumar into custody,” said an officer.
