COIMBATORE: The second phase of Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions’ (RBEI) new research and development facility was inaugurated at CHIL-SEZ, Keeranatham village in Coimbatore. The 2,50,000 sq. ft facility features a knowledge centre and a state-of-the-art car testing bay.
The knowledge centre is an extensive repository of scientific, technical and scholarly material to provide engineers with the environment to foster a culture of research and innovation.
Former Chairman of ISRO, Mr K. Kasturirangan said, “The type of research that comes out of here is certainly going to be world class; it is evident from the infrastructure”. RBEI’s next generation solutions and products are engineered in sync with innovation and a local focus to help organisations and people make use of technology and information to solve everyday problems. "At Coimbatore. we use one of the latest technologies of clean diesel called selective catalyst reaction, which is used for reducing the NOx content in exhaust gas from diesel engines, said R.K. Shenoy, senior vice president of RBEI.
The Bosch unit in Coimbatore is vested with the complete software responsibility for a global project on vehicle safety based on anti-lock braking control. Complete software projects of ‘In-Car dashboard systems’ for many premium OEMs are also delivered out of Coimbatore.
RBEI also has the first motion-tracking test facility, outside Germany for Bosch Sensortec. In the healthcare field we test products which offer remote patient monitoring, informed Vijay Ratnaparkhe, managing director of RBEI.
RBEI has also invested in a car test bay facility in the Coimbatore premises. This facility will be used to prepare vehicles for calibration and validation of engine management functions. The vehicle intake and exhaust systems can be instrumented at this facility to measure various system parameters to optimise electronic control unit software.
A PSG college of engineering graduate and vice president of RBEI, Sri Krishnan said, “Bosch is extending technological support to many colleges and universities in the city. This will benefit the students, the institutions, and indirectly the city”.
About 40 per cent of the employees working in Coimbatore hail from Kerala. The company is already tied up with colleges such as PSG college of technology, Kumaraguru college of technology and Amrita University.
Established in May 2006, the company now has a headcount of more than 5,600 employees in Coimbatore. With the new facility, RBEI has 9 development centers including Bangalore and Coimbatore.
