BJP to organise yoga demos

500 yoga teachers to be roped in for task

Chennai: Yoga schools are dime a dozen in India, which gave to the world Patanjali’s yoga sutras. And bringing the yoga gurus and their disciples, besides scores of first timers, on the same platform, to demonstrate the importance of yoga is rather a difficult task, which the BJP state youth wing aims to achieve soon. Aiming to turn the spotlight on yoga as part of an effort to inspire people to follow a superior lifestyle pattern that fosters good health in the long run, the BJP youth wing will organise massive yoga demonstrations in the city and various parts of Tamil Nadu on International Day of Yoga, which will be observed on June 21.

“We are planning to organise this mega event in about 1,000 places throughout Tamil Nadu and are in touch with about 500 yoga gurus (masters) who would participate in the spectacular event,” says Kavin Kamal Kumar, BJP youth wing state president.Confessing that this was a Herculean task as it involved bringing yoga masters practicing different techniques under one roof, Mr Kamal Kumar said the local resources would be used in holding the event. “We want the entire state to draw inspiration and take to practicing yoga for good health and qualitatively better life,” he adds.

The youth wing which was instrumental in organsing the massive conference in Tiruchy in September 2013 addressed by Mr Narendra Modi, who was then Chief Minister of Gujarat, is determined to make the June 21 event successful. “We have already informed all our district office-bearers to involve many persons including those who have commenced practicing Yoga,” says A.P. Muruganandam, BJP Yuva Morcha all India vice president.

The party wants yoga to be introduced in the school education curriculum to ensure healthier citizens of tomorrow.“At least from the ensuing academic year, yoga should be introduced as a subject as this not only sharpens intellect but also makes one self reliant,” a BJP senior said.
